Franklin’s sensory needs are currently through the roof, thus why I’m desperate for OT (Occupational Therapy) support. 7 1/2 months of chasing and pleading and still no appointment. We’ve been passed from pillar to post and back again!
He is hyposensitive and in constant motion. Metaphorically speaking, Franklin’s proprioception is turned down very low. This means he needs a very strong stimulus to feel what his own body is doing and where he is.
This is exactly what he is getting from throwing himself back like this. It gives him a comforting and pleasant feeling.
Whilst I can allow this behaviour at home on the sofa for a short time because I know he is safe, it’s another story if he attempts anything like this somewhere else, and how can I possibly keep him safe during the night?
The more he craves to feel, the more extreme and dangerous his sensory seeking acts are becoming. That combined with his total lack of awareness of danger are a pretty lethal combination!
