Zip it!

Franklin’s current highly-focused interest is zips. When someone arrives at home in a coat his eyes light up. He likes to study the zip at close range and then zip it open and closed, on repeat, for an eternity.

He has always been attached to unusual objects since a young age. Spoons, the number 8, CD’s, to name a few. Obsessions can be a source of enjoyment for people with autism, and also a coping strategy for dealing with daily life.

The repetitive action involved in opening and closing a zip could also be seen as self-stimulating behaviour, which Franklin finds calming.

What’s a girl to do when their son is obsessed with zips? 24 zipper bracelet for £6 from Amazon. Happy days!!
